What We Need To Get Started

Having a good idea is not enough to secure grant funding. Grants Northwest works with nonprofits at all stages of preparation to develop their projects, but the more planning you have done before we start the better and faster we can serve you.

Required by all private (and some government) funders:

These are absolutely necessary. If your nonprofit organization doesn’t have 501(c)(3) status, it is not grant eligible. (Local governments including school districts, churches and Indian Tribes fall under different tax exempt statuses)

  • IRS tax exemption letter showing 501(c)(3) status
  • Financial Statements (audited is best)
  • Board of Directors list with affiliations

You will need to have these for the organizational description part of the grant narrative. We can help you to develop or adapt them for use in your proposal.

  • Mission Statement
  • Organizational history
  • Current organizational profile
  • Current annual operating budget
  • Key staff resumes
  • Organizational chart
  • Brochures, annual reports, newspaper articles.
  • Past successful grant proposals for your agency

Project for grant funding

The more thought you have given to your project, the faster we can work. However, you don’t have to have completed planning for us to begin. We can help you at any stage to fully develop each of  components into your full proposal.

For capital (building) project grants

Grants Northwest has developed the grants for many capital campaigns, although we do not manage other aspects of a campaign. These elements should generally be in place before beginning grantwriting.

  • Architectural drawings (Site plan, floor plans, front elevation drawing)
  • Construction budget (done by architect or contractor)
  • Site control of land for building
  • Zoning (and conditional use permits if necessary)
  • Architect and contractor on board
  • Pro-forma for operations after construction
  • Capital campaign fundraising plan
